Dr. Ron Roth received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the George W. Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering at Georgia Tech. Dr. Roth’s educational background includes majors in Applied Control Theory, Dynamics and Vibrations, and Optimization Theory and minors in Electromagnetics, Mechanics of Materials, and Mathematics.

Dr. Roth has over thirty (30) years of experience in the design and implementation of advanced control systems as well as (DAQ) data acquisition systems.

Some of Dr. Roth’s more interesting Advanced Controller Development projects have been the following:

(1) The Development of a Hybrid Engine Dyno system which integrates the capacities of an AC Dyno System which provides speed and motoring control while also integrating into the same system an Eddy Current Dyno which provides large load capacity. The beauty of this system is that the Hybrid Dyno Systems operation is invisible to the Engine Calibration Engineer.

(2) The Development of a Partial Dilution Emission Tunnel in which 50 +/- 1 percent of the engine exhaust stream was “thrown” away. This system allows a smaller Dilution Tunnel to be used with a larger Engine test system.
